All Arnstadt Highlights in One Tour

Arnstadt is a picturesque little town hidden in the green heart of Germany - The Thuringian Forest. The oldest town in Thuringia, Arnstadt charms with its city towers, cobble-stone streets, fountains and parks. The old city dates back to 704 and boasts a well-preserved city center. Home to Johann Sebastian Bach when the famous composer was a rebellious teen, Arnstadt tells the story of a young Bach in the beginning of his career at the Bachkirche. Arnstadt romantic beauty is forever preserved in the books by Eugenie Marlitt, who was a popular German novelist. You will enjoy hearing the stories of the old city and learning about its past while taking a walk through the worlds' greenest space and breathing what must be the cleanest air on planet Earth.

Did you know?

In 1703 the city of Arnstadt hired a rowdy youth as an organist for their new church. He arbitrarily prolonged his vacation for a couple months, he accompanied an unknown damsel into the gallery of the church and had a fist fight at the marketplace. There were also clear critics to his music: "He changes the key too often, plays dissonant chords and consternates the congregation with unusual sounds." Quite an outrageous behavior Mr. Johann Sebastian Bach!
